PV companies sue New Jersey governor after solar rebates raided
July, 2010: After declaring a fiscal emergency in the US state of New Jersey in February, Governor Chris Christie in early May issued an executive order allowing $158 million in utility ratepayer funds designated to support mostly solar energy programs to be diverted to the state’s general fund in order to help plug a $2.2 billion budget shortfall for the current fiscal year, which ends June 30.

California utility SMUD to award feed-in tariff contracts in May
June, 2010: The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), the second-largest public utility in California, expects to begin offering contracts under its new feed-in tariff program by May, allowing for construction to begin on dozens of projects between 1 and 5 MW.
