SERIS, the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore, focuses on industry-oriented research and development in the solar energy sector. SERIS is a new national laboratory located within the National University of Singapore (NUS) and has a budget of approx S$130 million over the first 5 years. SERIS is sponsored by Singapore's Economic Development Board (EDB) and the National University of Singapore (NUS). SERIS is headed by Prof. Joachim Luther. SERIS is currently ramping up its operations and is looking for people to fill a variety of positions. SERIS is in immediate need of people to fill the following positions.
HEAD, Silicon Wafer Solar Cell Group
JOB DESCRIPTION: A major part of SERIS is the Silicon Photovoltaics cluster, which aims at the development of novel, industrially relevant Si wafer and Si thin-film solar cells. The Silicon PV cluster, which is headed by Prof. Armin Aberle, consists of four separate groups (Silicon wafer cells, Silicon thin-film cells, Characterisation, PV production technologies). The successful applicant will head the »Silicon wafer solar cell group« within the Silicon PV cluster at SERIS. After a ramp-up phase of 1-2 years, the Silicon wafer group is expected to consist of at least 20-35 people, including 10-15 scientists, 5-10 equipment engineers/technicians, and 5-10 PhD students. The group's main task will be to develop novel cost-effective silicon wafer solar cells and modules. The group will have access to a new, fully equipped, 1000 m2 cleanroom laboratory at SERIS capable of processing silicon wafers with sizes of up to 20 by 20 cm2. Particular emphases will be on the processing of thin wafers. Both monocrystalline (Cz) and multicrystalline wafers will be used. While significant seed funding will be provided by SERIS for the group's work, the Head of the group will be responsible for securing additional research funding from industry and from competitive grant schemes.
Essential requirements: Bachelor of Science or Engineering; Ph.D in the field of silicon wafer solar cells; Excellent English skills (written & oral); Experience with applied R&D projects; Good team leader skills; Good negotiation skills; Good publication record in the field of silicon wafer solar cells.
Useful capabilities: Experience with the supervision of PhD and Masters students; Experience with establishing and leading a working group.
HEAD, Performance analysis of PV modules
JOB DESCRIPTION: The successful applicant will establish and head the new unit »Performance analysis of PV modules« at SERIS. The unit will comprise the head and 3-4 technicians or engineers. The unit's main task will be to conduct standardised tests on PV modules provided by our clients to determine if these PV modules can be certified according to international standards. Particular emphasis will be on large-area PV modules, including various thin-film technologies. In parallel to the work in the context of PV module certification, the unit will conduct R&D on various PV module related issues, for example their long-term stability. The establishment of the unit at SERIS will be supported by an existing performance test facility from overseas.
Essential requirements: Bachelor of Science or Engineering; Excellent English skills (written & oral); Good negotiation skills; Good team leader skills; Experience with electrical and optical measurements.
Useful capabilities: Experience with applied R&D projects; Experience with establishing and leading a working group.
